People who inquire about buying a Sterling TRD

From: Ruben Mendoza
Jack,

I just wanted to tell you that I got my puppy, Tim got his puppy and Jason got his puppy. They are beautiful and so far the pick up went well. Few bumps on the road with customs but after all I am please. I promised my kids a TRD and you delivered. I love that puppy and my kids as well. The puppies arrived really good and with not too much stress so I will write a testimonial about the experience since the beginning with my search for the puppy, then finding you as the ONLY REAL SOURCE FOR TRD IN THE INTERNET. That is something that 3 of us found out. The quality is great. You pay for what you ask for; either a pet quality or show quality. Thanks so much for the puppy, the new friends a met on the road( Tim and Jason) and for your cooperation. I really appreciate it.

Best regards,

Ruben Mendoza

Sorry about taking so long getting back to you but, I will be the first to say, I was kinda cautious at first, but all I knew was I wanted the real goshdarn thing and your TRD are well worth the money time effort and stress to get the babies 1/2 way around the world.

Once I got your puppy in my hands I did not care about what ever else I had to do , I was going get that boy home! Took the boy to the vet and was told that it was the strongest heart he has ever heard on a dog.

This baby boy sits in my lap all day gets along with my cats and follows me like a shadow! If anyone wonders if it is worth the effort or money tell them to call me and I will set them straight! I take pictures of him all the time and he is adjusting great !

I will admit all the f^^king stars have to be aligned sometimes to be able to get a puppy half way around the world and then fly in the US with him to home! A lot of planning and thought needs to go into it, and most of all be willing to put forth the effort. I will tell you people out there that are thinking of getting a TRD from Jack, you better have help with all the planning.

If it was not for Jason and Ruben I would not have been ever able to get my dog by myself! Thank god Ruben was able to show up with a truck and Jason had enough sense to map it all out on his lap top. Then we had a lot of luck with the time and places we had to go but we all got the puppies and we were all happy!

I am one extremely happy camper and I will let you know when the puppy's website is up !

Again thanks for the wonderful puppy and it was well worth it.

Jack,

I am sorry that I was unable to get back with you after picking up Sakorn XXI, but I wanted to let the puppy (whom we have renamed Kimura) get settled in and to state my true feelings about all that has transpired in the last couple of months.  After our first conversation on Skype, my wife and I were a bit skeptical about what was going to transpire.  But you took every measure to get people from all around the world to contact us and help ease our worries with regards to taking a leap of faith and purchasing one of your puppies.  You promised us that we would have a beautiful puppy, which may be an understatement.  To say that he is anything less than regal would be a blatant lie.  You ensured us that he would be a strong-willed animal, but he would be well socialized.  We have found that because of the exemplary way in which you have socialized him, that he has fit into our family, or pack, perfectly.  And although he has been a bit strong-willed so far, the intelligence of these animals has enabled us to train him immediately, and with only minor hiccups.  You promised that getting him to the States would not be a problem and would not wear badly on the puppy--and it amazes me to say that you were right (there is no way that getting a dog from Thailand should have been this easy).  I find the only problem that I have had is my over-active imagination thinking that something had to go wrong.

In order to show my gratitude for all the help that you have given us, I have sent a few little pictures that we have taken over the last couple of days of Kimura's homecoming.  I must say that other than Olivia, our cousin's toy chihuahua that he tried to eat, the whole family loves him.  I can't say that I am surprised he tried to eat said chihuahua, because you did promise me that he would have a strong prey drive.

Thank you very much, Papa Jack, for letting us into your family of TRD owners.  So far, Kimura has been worth every penny.

Sincerely,
Jason Coley

This really saddens me to say this but SAKORN #1 passed at nearly 14 years of age and his old living offspring from the October 31st litter in 1997 Madison Ave. has just passed away.. MADISON was a very awesome girl.. I cried when reading Todd's letter..

Hello Jack,

I am absolutely heart broken as I write you this email. Miss Madison passed away last night, in my arms. She was such a wonderful, smart, beautiful girl and I thank you so much for bringing her into my life. I miss her so much and am sure you can understand.

I just wanted to let you know that I had 13 wonderful years with her from New York, to Washington DC, to Palm Beach and finally Miami Beach. She helped me immensely while I recovered from my accident and weathered life's up and downs.

Madison was so unique, elegant, smart and filled with personality. I miss her so much and just wanted to thank you for one of the best things I have ever had in my life.

Sincerely,

Todd

Hi Brandi,

Let me start with; some advise on visiting Thailand. (Jack mentioned you were concerned). I live and work in Thailand (10 years living and 6 years working) so I have a fair understanding of Thailand, the people and the culture.

I am an American and have chosen this country to live in (And marry a national) for two reason; first it is a beautiful country that has so many incredible sights and experiences available and second being the Thai people who are unlike any others that I have ever experienced in my travels around the world. (In my opinion the best) they are happy, friendly, relaxed and extremely tolerant people who do not judge others and place a high regard on being polite, respectful and never showing negative emotions. Having said this, you will have to get accustomed to "Thai time" and their relaxed way of living. It is a very safe country that generates 60% to 70% of the income from tourism so don’t worry about coming here to get your new TRD. Just treat the Thais how you want to be treated, be patient and respectful and you will have a great trip.

My new TRD – Tong Dang (Means bronze in Thai): See attached photos.

Back-round on this bread. The King of Thailand has made this breed of dog the royal dog of Thailand and has “Knighted” I guess is the best western term for his dogs. This is a very special breed of dog.

I chose this breed to be an addition to my family to provide security and protection based on everything that I have read on the history of this primitive breed he is a perfect fit and will care for my wife, daughter and property when I am away at work. (With the proper training, love and owner dominance established – dominance is necessary with animals that are not totally domesticated as with this breed)

I have (In California) managed a ranch with many dogs and livestock. I feel it is important for the dog to pick you or at least have good interaction with his new potential owner. So this needs to be done in person.

When I took my family to Chang Mai I was set on a Blue male, wanting a large dog to provide the above for my family. Together we all had interaction with most of Jack’s puppies and found that the “Red” male Tong Dang was calm and friendly with my family, on his own approaching all my family allowing us to interact with him. Note all of the Blues would not interact with my family or me unless forced to do so and as soon as they were allowed to they kept any from us.

What I was looking for most was the dog’s temperament; I found Tong Dang to be relaxed, calm, attentive and confident. He is a generally happy dog who paid attention to his environment without getting excited or wary of new people but was not timid either with the other puppies, showing his confidence.

The next consideration was the dogs physical make up. Coat, legs, muscle structure, teeth and health. Most of Jacks puppies are in great shape but you will have to decide the quality you want. As it turned out Tong Dang is show quality, however this was not a major point for us.

We spend most of the first day at Jack’s interacting with the dogs, looking at the parents, asking questions of Jack on all of his dogs and his experiences until we decided on Tong Dang.

On the second day we all went to the local pet sales area in Chang Mai to see what was available and compare with what Jack had to offer. We found that the pet TRD at the market are much cheaper (Only reds) but very young and not of the same quality (Still good looking dogs). I found Jack to have the best selection and variety of TRD dogs in Thailand. (Note I did check with many Thai breeders before going to see Jack). Be wary of buying from Thai markets, there is no guarantee, all sales are final, they will most of the time say anything to make the sale and in Thailand generally everything is a copy or knock off.

After the pet market we went back to Jack’s and gave Tong Dang a bath (Note he did not like it at all) paid Jack and got the cage for flight transport (This was after checking with Thai Airways the day before – with Jacks’ help to ensure no flight / transport issues) I recommend checking all of this with the country you are going back to and the airline you will be using.

There were no issues with flying Tong Dang back to Bangkok on Thai Airways, we just paid the weight charge and picked him up in Bangkok Airport (He was flown on our domestic flight as excess baggage and check in at the check in counter)

Buying Experience: Jack was great and is genuine and honest in helping his buyers

We are very happy with our dog and I would recommend buying from Jack for quality and selection (He is not the cheapest in Thailand, but you do get what you pay for). Jack has the best TRD that I was able to find in Thailand, this was also with the help on many Thais that I work with checking with Thai breeders for me.

If you need any further advice please let me know.

Regards,

Todd

Hello Todd!

Thank you so much for the detailed reply! I appreciate your advice and perspective, and certainly wasn't expecting such a great, thoughtful response.

I have been to Thailand once- five years ago and I agree with the people and beauty- it was the best trip of my life (I used to live in Australia).  The only thing I was/am apprehensive about I suppose was really just travelling alone.  A group of us went in college and it was a blast- we did the 3 day hill-tribe trek, which was an amazing cultural experience. I'm thinking about doing it again- it's just never as fun (at least for me) alone, as I'm more of a people person. But thank you again for the reassurance.  I'm definitely excited for the trip.

I'm so glad to hear you found such a great dog, and thank you for sending the wonderful pictures!  Jack has shown me many dogs on skype and they are ALL great- I'm having a hard time choosing which to put my money down on.  However, I agree that the dog definitely has a say and that can only be determined once I get there and interact with them. I know that no matter what, I'm going to come back with a dog I will love.

Also, I really appreciated you letting me know about your extensive research into all the area breeders and the reassurance that Jack's dogs were the best you've found. It has been a bit of a logistical nightmare with special paperwork submitted and pre-approval requests to be able to even bring it into Japan- they are very stringent with their animal import laws here, but I've been doing my research and should have all my t's crossed so hopefully there won't be any issues when I come through with the puppy. I'll let you know how it goes!

Thanks again for your time, and cheers to a wonderful new year ahead with a great addition to the family!!!

Brandi Beck

Then Todd writes to me on Saurday..

Hi Jack, She sounds like she is sold on your dogs, good luck.

Hope your move is going well.

Todd

It takes a lot of money to get a TRD to you.. Can you afford this...

The cage.. $150 the cheapest or the very best for $200 which has a second floor raised up and a set of wheels with a handle to pull it.

Shipping is to LAX only via Thai air Cargo.. the only airlines that services my city here in Thailand. All others are in Bangkok and it takes a broker to deal with those private airlines as TAC is a Thailand run company. The cost is $600 to $800  depending size of the cage.

Now, the cost of a TRD..

RED, BLACK.. $400 to $1500
BLUE FAWN.. $500 to $2000

It all depends on the quality..

As far as living in a apartment you need to clear that with the owners and BELIEVE ME.. You do not leave a TRD puppy or as a adult alone in a apartment for more than 20 minutes. You neighbors will hate you within 10 minutes.  TRD want to be with the owner every second of everyday.. Ask these Sterling TRD owners their opinions first.. or move to a house with at least a yard..with a high fence..

"Kevin Sarkki" , San Francisco has a BLUE male
"David Dabill" , NYC has a BLUE male
"Jory Stiefel" , NYC has a BLUE male
"Brian Dumont" , NYC has a BLUE male
"robert billek" , NJ has a RED male
"Jennifer Wheeler" , VA has many TRD
"Chmielewski Igor" , Warsaw Poland has a BLUE male
"Tanya McDowell" , Austrilia has a BLUE bitch
"Robert & Phaanong Jackson" , Stockton CA., has a RED and BLACK plus has 6 new born puppies now for sale.. see my frontpage of my website.
These are really good and honest people and will tell you the truth as they see it and only their experiences in the TRD breed. Remember this is a breed that worships their owner(s) and will live in a cardboard box with you if that is where you live. BUT they may destroy that box while you leave them for 30 seconds.

I know that block you live in and on as my bank (The Bank of America) where you will go to pay me if you think you can handle it is at 5500 Geary Blvd at 19th Ave.

I know you have no yard as I know you will need a car to transport her to the Golden Gate Park (GGP) or you walk it..Remember, I lived in SF for 19 years and my last year was at 1902 9th Ave. at Ortega in Forest Hill with 3 BLUE TRD and a litter of 9 TRD puppies. My walk was 9 blocks to enter the GGP. It was totally INSANE what I did back then thinking about it now.. The TRD drove me out of SF as I needed land and a place where they would NOT piss off the neighbors.. Something I am now also dealing with here in Thailand once again. One TRD may not be so bad.. but you will make enemies for sure if you leave the TRD all alone in a apartment.. Love to sell the TRD to people in homes with yards..

Just being honest.. Ask Kevin, who lives out in the avenues and go see him.. Then drive to Stocton and see Rob Jackson and his 6 puppies and his two adults. The two guy are very honest and will NOT lie to you.. Other TRD breeders in America only want to sell a pup as fast as they can to get the puppy out not really caring about the long term..You can see this is not the case here with me. Sure, I will also sell you but you need to realize what you are about to enter into.. Seriously email each person given to you in this email.

Learn from them.. a apartment on a quite busy street.. me thinks you move..

Kevin Sarkki replies...
Jack,

Following is the message I'd sent to Carlos Rojas. He replied back with appreciation.

Carlos,

My experience with our TRD is limited to a house with a backyard
of about 25 x 50 feet. For the best advice, try to contact a TRD owner who lives in an apartment like yourselves.

I have posted several times on Jack's website, so you can fish through there or do a Google search for other TRD comments from me.

While breeds have general behavioral attributes, all dogs are unique, having said that, I have read many other TRD owners describe their dogs and ours seems to be typical of the breed.

TRDs are jungle dogs. They are very unlike any common breed you meet in America. The survival instincts are not bred out like domesticated dogs. That's why Jack cautions all prospective owners--this breed is not for everyone.

I liken the TRD to a big jungle cat. It moves with stealth, it is very reserved around strangers. It is typically a one person dog. Ours is most at ease around our daughters. I think he's the coolest creature imaginable, but I understand he is predisposed to act cautiously in my presence. He's on his best behavior when I am around.

There are many pluses about the breed. Very healthy, very strong, generally quiet, very low maintenance--and smart! Not the kind of smart that will perform tricks for you, rather, a silent observer that will out smart you!!

Amazing athletic ability. This is the major concern of living in a small space. Ours likes to run, dig deep holes, and sound the alarm when creatures and people are near. We had to raise the fence to 6 feet because of his jumping ability. He may have thought the neighbors' little furry Lhasa Apso dog was dinner.

We never let our TRD run free outside the yard. The prey drive is very strong, he would track down any critter and place himself in danger with traffic, etc. Always walk him on leash. A thick wire cable that he cannot chew through.

He is about 65 lbs--mostly muscle. We are not opening our home to visitors but you can get a sense of his size by watching these short YouTube videos of him.
